Older Newborn Sessions :: Raleigh Newborn Photography - Fuquay-Varina Newborn Photographer

Ok, I’m going to be real with y’all for a minute. My first son was born in 2009. I was a ripe 25 years old with no freaking idea of how to take care of a baby. I remember when they discharged us, I was like, “wait, what.” How in the world were we qualified to keep a baby alive?! We had a dog and a cat, but.. this was different. This was hard. “Breastfeeding shouldn’t hurt.” OK WELL THEN WHY DOES IT?! I was still recovering from my delivery and now I also needed to try and manage a crying baby while sleep deprived. Needless to say, I called my mom and told her I needed her to come stay the first night. THANK GOD for her.

For the remainder of my maternity leave, I battled post-partum depression, except I didn’t really admit that and didn’t ask for help. But I cried… every. day. I think my mom knew I was struggling and would stop by on her way home from work to just give me a break, or help out around the house.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because I need you to know that I’ve been there. As much as I would have LOVED to have newborn photos of my son, it didn’t happen. I couldn’t even imagine taking him somewhere on my own, more or less getting myself ready to be in photos. So, around his 2 month mark, we hopped in the car, went to Sears Portrait Studio (oh, yes we did) and I hoped that they could capture some newborn images of my baby like I saw on Pinterest. They said no, and we got what we got. The sepia tone one just really hits early 2000’s hard for me (lol).

Now this brings me to my point. Your baby is never “too old” for photos. Will you be able to get all sleeping, posed images of your baby? Probably not, but that smiling picture up there of William is one of my favorites. Older newborn sessions are just a little different. You will get awake images of your baby, and even get lucky enough to have some smiles. Usually the baby will fall asleep once wrapped, but we just go with the flow! Check out this “elderly newborn” (I’m kidding) who was 9 weeks old and just 9lbs. I would recommend a newborn session for any baby 4-8 weeks old and under 10lbs. Feel free to reach out and we can discuss your options. *Sepia editing not included.
