What to wear for Heirloom Portraits | Raleigh Heirloom Photography
Heirloom Photography is making a big comeback, especially in the Raleigh, N.C. area. People are drawn to heirloom portraits for a variety of reasons, but most people love the traditional, simplicity of these portraits that they grew up seeing in their grandparent’s homes. These portraits are not trendy, or overly stylized. There aren’t any distracting props, just a sweet vignette that highlights the beauty of your child. Heirloom photography portraits usually feature children wearing traditional, light colored outfits. Here are some wardrobe tips to help you prepare for your heirloom photography portrait session in Raleigh, N.C.
Wear light, solid clothing. Patterns are great, but not for these. Bright colors are wonderful, but not for these. In my opinion, white, pink, and light blue look the absolute best for the ways that I edit these photos.
Only pay attention to the area from the arm pits & higher. You will not see other parts of the outfit. So even if the outfit doesn’t fit perfectly, that’s ok! Don’t worry about putting pants on or shoes. You won’t see it!
Think about adding a bow for little girls. You can do a clip in bow or a headband bow. It just adds a little extra.
Collars for boys photograph wonderfully. In younger boys, I would suggest something with a Peter Pan collar, and with older boys, I’d do more of a dress shirt.
Smocked necklines for girls are really popular. It adds a little dimension and something special to their outfit.
