How to dress for a lifestyle newborn session to match your home :: Raleigh newborn photography
One of the more stressful things about thinking about having a photography session is thinking about wardrobe. You want everyone to look their best so you can cherish these photos for years to come. But what to wear? Planning for outdoor locations can be a little simpler. You dress for the weather & the season. But, when it comes to dressing for sessions that happen in your home like a lifestyle newborn session, it can be a little more difficult. My tip for you is to think about the rooms we will be photographing in, which usually is the primary bedroom & nursery. Look around at the wall color & decor. Try to pull in similar colors. This session, for example, has this gorgeous wallpapered wall with hues of blue. Mom dressed in a coordinating blue dress (which I promptly ordered from Amazon that day), and then they kept baby in a simple white onesie. Sister is in a coordinating hue of sage green & dad is wearing a darker green shirt. They are not matching but they are coordinating. And, their colors go perfectly with their decor in their room.
Mom, you have just had a baby. Make sure you are wearing something that you are comfortable in! This dress is a great example because it does not hug areas we don’t want it hugging, and is nursing friendly.
Feel free to wear shoes or go barefoot. This is your house! Do what suits you best. And, I am not sure if you can tell, but mom even had a little bandana for the pup! So cute!
Other than a simple onesie, feel free to use neutral wraps for baby. Babies love to be swaddled and it can make it easier to keep them sleepy & happy if they are bundled up. I do recommend to avoid swaddles with bright prints only because it may be distracting in the photo or clash with your outfits. Stick to solids or simple, muted patterns! This baby was also the smiliest baby ever! I am so happy I was able to capture some of his grins.
We also frequently will shoot in the baby’s nursery if it is completed. This baby had a southwestern theme, and the colors of their wardrobe fit in perfectly as well. They chose a wrap for baby that matched the theme in the nursery.
This family also had a great little front porch with the cutest swing. Of course we had to get some family shots outside! Keep this in mind for your lifestyle newborn session. If there is a shaded spot in your yard, feel free to request some outdoor images!
