AFP Timeline Book NewbornsInterested in newborn photography?  Here are few tips:

1.  Do not wait until your baby is born to book a photographer!  We fill up our newborn spots FAST because we want to make sure we are available when that little bundle of joy arrives.

2.  Notify your photographer when the baby is born.  You will typically spend 2 days in the hospital, and come home on the third day.  We try to photograph newborns within the first 12 days of life.

3.  I can travel to your home to photograph your baby and will try to disrupt your life as little as possible.. mainly in the rearranging of furniture :)

4.  Don't feel like you can't have visitors during the time when I am photographing.  Granted, they will need to wait to get their snuggles in, but I don't mind an audience.

5.  Siblings are welcome to be photographed!  It is very common that people have children 2-3 years apart, so I am use to having a rambunctious toddler in addition to a newborn.  I take the necessary precautions to make sure everyone is safe.

6.  Be on the lookout for the best location in your house with natural light.  Maybe it is in the kitchen with a back door, or dining room with a bay window.  Is the light better in the morning or afternoon?  I am very flexible with my equipment, and can make it work anywhere :)

7.  Try (keyword, try..) to keep your newborn awake prior to my arrival and then feed as I set up.  I have had 2 kids, so I know that this may be impossible.  And, don't worry..  I come prepared with my best mommy techniques to lull them into the deepest, loveliest sleep for those extra squishy photos!

8.  This is meant to be a joyous, stress-free, beautiful occasion.  It is my intention to keep it that way.  If you need a break, take one.  If the baby needs to eat, feed them.  If you get hungry, eat in front of me, I don't care.  Need to check Facebook, take a shower, or just relax.. please do it!  I need very little assistance during my newborn shoots, and I want to cause as little interruption in your life as possible!

9.  I LOVE when families have their own ideas they want to incorporate.  Scour Pinterest, Etsy, or other photographer's pages and see if anything catches your eye.  Email them to me or simply describe, and we can try to recreate.

And finally,  10.  If you want those newborn images that take your breath away, please hire a professional.  Not only do we have the camera, lighting, and editing experience, but we also have the safety education that insures that you can trust us with your baby.  Never will I put a baby in a situation that could harm them, and I always take all safety precautions to make sure no accidents could happen.
